Sad News:

Hi everyone. It’s Grant, Clinch’s founder and editor in chief. I’ve got some sad news: I’ve decided to step away from the magazine. Which means that, for now, Clinch is coming to an end.

Since starting Clinch two years ago, I’ve learned that running a lit mag is a labor of love. And, unfortunately, I’ve realized that I don’t love it enough to justify the labor any longer. For that reason, it’s time for me to move on.

This decision was a tough one to make; mainly because I’m so proud and grateful for this small, tight knit, martial arts/writing community we’ve created and fostered together. I’ve been able to meet and collaborate with so many fascinating, delightful people, and I am so glad to have created a platform to combine our collective passions. Your support in me and in Clinch has truly meant the world, and is something I’ll continue to carry with me.

That being said, just because I’m leaving doesn’t mean Clinch must go defunct. If anybody was interested in taking over the magazine, I am more than happy to transfer all control/materials/etc. over to you. My editors have expressed interest in maintaining their current positions, so if someone was to take over my EIC role then you wouldn’t be running Clinch alone! If you’re interested, please let me know (via DM’s or by sending en email to editor@clinchlit.com) and we can discuss next steps.

As for the Clinch website, the current plan is to reconstruct a barebones version, while keeping the domain registered and the site accessible to our archives, so that all contributors will continue to have an active link to their published work.

Thank you all. For everything. I hope this community finds a way to keep intact, one way or another.

Lastly: please don’t let this keep you from creating. The martial arts world needs artists outside of the ring/cage/mat just as much as it needs artists inside it.

Farewell for now,

Grant Young
